Sailor first. Photographer because of it.

I'm a semi-professional photographer and filmmaker with a passion for sport and the environment — I'm a graduate with a soft spot for sailing, and the two have always blended well. Since finishing university I've worked towards various yachting qualifications, and used every trip as an excuse to photograph and film the places I've been lucky enough to see.

The site originally started as a self-imposed challenge: a new photo or film posted every week for a year, shot on whatever Canon body I had to hand at the time — a 600D to start, later a 70D and a 7D Mark II. No formal training, just a lot of trial, error, and paying close attention to what the light was doing.

That project is where most of the work in the journal comes from — the Solent and the Isle of Wight for sailing, the Norfolk coast for sunsets, London on the odd day trip, and further afield when a delivery or a trip abroad allowed it. While at the University of York I led a group up Kilimanjaro in aid of Hope for Children, which is still one of the more memorable things I've filmed.

Still shooting the same way now: crisp, simple, and out of the way of the photography.
